Main Essay: A Time for Hope and New Beginnings
by Krista Jones
Woo-Hoo! What a day it is here in the U.S. I’ll keep this short because I want to fully take in the magnificence of this moment.
It’s Inauguration Day in one of the most troubling times this country has ever faced.
The day the United States swore in its first African-American President.
The day many people, including plenty of Americans, see us in a different light.
It’s impossible to ignore the significance of this moment.
Don’t misunderstand me. I don’t want or expect President Obama or the government to solve all of our problems. We have an obligation to do the bulk of that for ourselves. Not just for ourselves as individuals, but for the collective.
One of the things that I find profoundly inspiring about all of this is that, for the first time, thousands of Americans are ready and willing to pick up a shovel and do their part of the work. That includes me.
I’ve written in the past about using my copywriting skills to serve others. I’ll continue to do that this year so I can serve more people than ever.
I’ll also find another way to serve. Something that is outside the realm of copywriting, something that is outside of my work. This time I’ll do something that comes from my heart.
Because the older I get and the wiser I become, the more I realize that it’s only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential.
Inauguration Day is a time of hope and new beginnings.
Please, regardless of your political beliefs, let it be that for you.
Resource Referral: CP Mentoring Program Resumes the Week of February 9th
Several people have written Monica and me asking when we’re starting a new session of the Copy Protégé Mentoring Program. The next session begins the week of February 9th.
If you want to work with one of us, let us know. Entrance will be first by application, and second, on a first come, first serve basis. A few people have already signed up, but we still have nine slots left. If you want to apply for the program, send a writing sample (no more than 2 pages) and your goals for the next six months to admin@copyprotege.com as soon as possible. We look forward to working with you!
